YIYUN ZHANG

Yiyun Zhang is an accomplished film composer and classical and jazz pianist, hailing from Kunming, Yunnan in southwest China.

Born into a family with a rich musical heritage, Yiyun began her piano studies at the age of six under the guidance of Professor Yuanying Zhuang. By the age of twelve, she had completed her Classical Piano degree. At twenty-two, Yiyun relocated to the United Kingdom to pursue further studies at Leeds Beckett University. During her time in the UK, she trained with some of the country’s most esteemed jazz pianists and vocalists, including Jamil Sheriff at Leeds College of Music and Tom Cawley at the Royal Academy of Music.

Yiyun's artistic pursuits extend beyond music. From 2015 to 2017, she worked as a photographer for London Jazzwise and Sussex Jazz Magazine, earning recognition through successful photographic exhibitions in Brighton.

Since returning to China in 2018, Yiyun has collaborated with notable artists such as Matti Dubee, Yongning Zhang, and Li Ma. In addition to honing her skills as a composer, she produces and co-directs independent art projects. Her latest show, focusing on Chinese opera art and installation design, concluded in May 2020 and is set to be released by Red Dragon Media Group in October 2020.
